Who is DOPE?  DOPE was Doug's callsign during a 2019-2020 deployment to East Africa.  So, when Doug started running with this idea to make fanny packs, people asked what he would call his business.  He said, "DOPE".  And when asked what DOPE meant...

What is DOPE? DOPE stands for Daily Outdoor Packs for Everyone. But really, what is DOPE?  They're fanny packs, hip packs, manny packs, nut rucks, waist sacks, bum bags.... it doesn't matter what you call it, we all know what it is; a bag you wear around your waist or across your body.

When did DOPE become a thing?  DOPE LLC was officially started in July 2021. The first DOPE bag was developed and created in 2021.  In January 2022, the DOPE Everyday Pack was brought to market and then in 2023, the DOPE Basic and the DOPE BSU Pack were introduced.

Where is DOPE located?  DOPE LLC "headquarters" is in Boise, Idaho.  The term "headquarters" is used loosely considering the LLC is ran out of Doug's one-bedroom apartment.  It's a very classy and professional environment.

Why fanny packs? During the deployment, it was common to walk around with several items on your person without anywhere to keep them (ID card, debit cards, vehicle keys, phone, dip, chapstick, money, your pistol, etc).  Backpacks were just cumbersome. And to be honest, fanny packs were allowed into the D-FAC (chowhall), where backpacks were not.  So it made sense.  Doug used his own personal fanny pack at the time, but wanted something more abrasive that could withstand the elements of an austere location.  And the ideas started flowing. 

 

With the help of a fellow parachute rigger, the first prototype was developed.  Once the first bag was complete, it didn't take long for everyone else to want one.  It was at the moment Doug realized fanny packs were making a comeback.

 

THE DOPE MISSION 

Our mission at DOPE is to provide a product that is not only built to last, but ready for any environment.  Except molten hot lava and scuba diving.  Fanny packs are versatile, meaning you can use these packs for literally whatever you want, almost anywhere you want.  Therefore, we want to provide you a product that is capable of withstanding anything you put it through (well, almost anything).
